In the dangerous wastelands of Crackland, Abett and Philip are rescued from ruthless goons by Lucy, a fierce warrior. Hating "other siders," Lucy robs them instead of freeing them, taking Abett's magical umbrella, Poros, and Philip's magnetic grapple. Philip manages to untie them, but he's desperate to escape back to his kingdom, leaving Abett behind to explore more. As they separate, fate brings them back together when a deadly petrifier attacks.
